Episode 282: Reimagine with Dr. Carina Hopen

There’s no one right way to be a doctor. What you plan to do when leaving residency isn’t necessarily what you’ll find yourself doing as you grow and evolve as a person and as a physician. This was and is definitely true for Dr. Carina Hopen who joins me to chat all about her career and life reimagined.

The last time Dr. Hopen was on the show she wasn’t fully able to discuss what she was up to. In fact, she was one of the first doctors who were asked to help Amazon launch their telehealth platform. This led to a true reimagination of both her career and her life at home.

This was all happening during a time that telehealth seemed very fringe. If you think about it, up until everything with Covid, telehealth has typically been received with scorn. Amazon was working to remove those barriers and help more people have access to qualified physicians.

The only issue was what that meant for her family. Being in the military and living the military lifestyle, she was used to spending time away from her family, but that didn’t make the transition easy.

Listen as she shares her story working with Amazon, why she needed to part ways with them, and how she’s working to find a balance between her passion and her need to be with family. How have you reimagined your life and career as you’ve navigated all of these twists and turns?

Hard decisions can become easier once you know exactly what your mission is and what the core values are that support the mission.
